BEN & JERRY'S FOUNDATION
The Ben & Jerry's Foundation
offers competitive grants to not-for-profit, grassroots
organizations throughout the United States which
facilitate progressive social change by addressing
the underlying conditions of societal and environmental
problems. The foundation supports programs and
projects that are examples of creative problem
solving. Projects must lead to societal, institutional,
and/or environmental change, address the root
causes of social or environmental problems, and
lead to new ways of thinking and acting.
NOTE: Public schools are not considered
"grassroots organizations" under the
Ben & Jerry's Foundation's definition. Grassroots
organizations that support public education are
eligible to apply.
Funds: $1,000 to
$15,000
Application
Deadline: accepts letters of inquiry year-round.
Full proposals (by invitation only) are due March
1, July 1, and Nov. 1.

THE LEO BUSCAGLIA FOUNDATION
The Leo Buscaglia Foundation is a public foundation that was formed in 1984 to support activities dedicated to fostering the spirit of giving. Projects related to the arts, humanities, and education are particularly encouraged; other areas also are considered if they're directed toward teaching and encouraging the spirit of giving.
Funds: Between $2,500 and $20,000

THE
SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER TEACHING TOLERANCE
GRANTS
The Teaching Tolerance project of the Southern
Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit group that fights
discrimination, offers grants to teachers in support
of projects that promote diversity, peacemaking,
community service, or other aspects of tolerance
education. Funded projects tend to be:
· small-scale, resourceful
and student-focused
· clearly defined, well-integrated
and tailored to the specific needs and interests
of particular learners and their communities
· economically responsible,
involving staff participation, community volunteers,
and in-kind contributions whenever possible
· sustainable in some
way, rather than one-time only evens and activities
Teaching Tolerance grants generally do not fund:
salaries, stipends, presenter fees, overhead costs,
travel expenses, food items, and computer hardware.
