FACT
Continuation schools are not effective
  • Highly effective in moving students to grade level achievement
  • Improved attendance
  • Improved behavior
  • Increased personal responsibility
Second-class education
  • Calvine is WASC accredited
  • Offers standards-based curriculum
  • Diploma is equal to traditional high school
  • Credits are earned on the basis of mastery not seat time
  • Students encouraged to attend post secondary education programs
Continuation schools are expensive
  • E.C. 48430 mandates continuation education
Continuation schools are unsafe
  • Attractive, safe and clean campus
  • Low incidence of fighting
  • Campus supervisor present
  • Caring and concerned staff
All kids in continuation are bad. (Gang members, violence prone, juvenile offenders)
  • Majority are credit deficient
