Priscilla Cox

Priscilla Cox has an extensive background in education and community service. Elected to the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Education in November of 1994, Cox was selected as Board President in 1998 and 2004. Cox taught math and science at the secondary level for 10 years, first with the Long Beach Unified School District and later with the Folsom Cordova Unified School District in Sacramento County.
Priscilla's leadership on education and community issues has established her as a well-respected resource. She has presented at the California Schools Boards Association's (CSBA) annual state conference for eight years and the National School Board Association conference in 2006. She chaired the annual CSBA conference and served as a delegate for several years before her election as Director for Region 6 in 2006. She's currently serving on the CSBA state task force for No Child Left Behind and recently served on their state task forces on charter and high school reform. Cox has also assisted in policy development for nutrition and preschool education. She was selected as a member of the California Department of Education Instructional Materials Advisory Panel for science for 2006 and serves as the CSBA representative on two advisory panels for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing - Career Technical Education Credentials and the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.
As a board member, she has served as a mentor to students for eleven years and considers her school site visits a highlight of being a board member. She is particularly interested in the district's math and science programs, parent involvement at both elementary and secondary levels and encouraging students to participate in school and community service learning. She is a member of the district Service Learning Steering committee that oversees implementation of service learning. Cox is a member of the advisory committees for Elk Grove High School's Ag-Science program, the Sheldon High School Bio-Tech Academy and the Business Education and Technology Academy at Florin High School. She also is on the board of the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Association, heading up their environmental education committee. Priscilla also volunteers through her church Women's Ministries program.
Priscilla earned a bachelor's degree and a secondary teaching credential in biological science and math from the University of California, Davis. She also completed graduate studies in ecology and outdoor education at Davis. She recently received her master's degree in education from California State University, Sacramento focusing on high school reform.
Priscilla lives in Elk Grove with her husband Ryan, a physician with Kaiser Permanente. Both of their daughters attended Elk Grove Unified School District schools from kindergarten through high school graduation and graduated from four-year universities.
