About the Program

Media Communications is one arm of STEM (School of Technology, Engineering and Media) at Franklin High School. The Media program currently consists of three Video courses and one Television Studio course. Also available is Public Speaker II, a television journalism class.  Students are encouraged to take all Video and Television courses in order to receive a Certificate of Mastery in the field.

Video courses are taught in a Macintosh computer lab with a mini-studio attached for students to work on small individual or group projects. A full television studio is available for some video work but serves primarily the students enrolled in the Television Studio course.

Students use Macintosh G4 and G5 computers running iMovie and Final Cut Pro and Express. Students are also exposed to basic use of Photoshop, Flash and a variety of graphic and audio software used to provide additional resources to video projects.

Students in the ROP Television Studio program produce the Morning Bulletin three times a week.  At the end of each term, a collection of student work is showcased in a broadcast to all classrooms during Advocacy class.
