Morning Bulletin
Report
40 Points
Take a look at this video overview of a television news operation.
In this assignment you are to report on a school activity or
get student impressions of a current event.
One of you will work as a reporter.
The other two members of the group will take turns as the camera
operator.
The goal is to have a finished segment that is 90 to 120
seconds that we can broadcast on the Morning Bulletin. (Note: Segments must be professional in
presentation and structure in order to qualify for broadcast)
Students have until the end of the term to complete this
assignment and must fit it in between their regular assignments. It is expected that it should take no more
than two days to complete: one day to shoot and capture to the computer and the
following day to edit. The group will
select the best edited version from the group and put it on the server in
Broadcast > Morning Bulletin Segments.
Everyone needs to turn in their own
CD ROM quality file in the appropriate period folder on the server.
Structure:
- The
reporter must introduce the segment.
For example: “Today parents get a chance to come back to school and
tag along with their kid. We went
out during 3rd lunch and spoke with some students and parents
about the event.
- The
reporter will interview select people.
(Avoid people who cannot express themselves appropriately.)
- The
camera operator will record some “B” roll of the activity. For example a
slow pan of people standing in line for burgers, and then some close-ups
of people squirting catsup on their burger, followed by another close-up
of a people biting into the burger.
- The
reporter will record some narration. For example: “As a special treat, the
ASB hosted a bar-b-que. Parents
didn’t seem to mind waiting in line and students enjoyed something
different from the normal cafeteria offerings.”
- The
reporter will conclude with some closing remarks and identification of
their name. For example: “It appeared that parents had a good
time and students didn’t mind having them along for the day. For the Morning Bulletin, I am Pat Smith
reporting. Now back to the
anchors.”
