Crime of the Century Editing Exercise

Objective:

Students will use a series of silent clips and fashion a story out of it.

Instructions:

Obtain the footage for this assignment from the Video server. Copy the files to your movies folder. Launch Final Cut Express import the files into your browser. Look at each individual clip before editing. Open up music in Viewer and place marker at the beats.

Grading Criteria:

1. Opening title, Crime of the Century, fades in and out over some footage.
2. Cuts occur on beat of soundtrack. Use markers in Final Cut Express timeline.
3. Use provided music for sound track.
4. The explosion must happen at the mid-way point where there is no music.
5. Use of appropriate sound effects from Soundsnap.com.
6. There is a coherent story that emerges from the edited clips.
7. The pacing of the video is appropriate, with no clip feeling too long or too short.
8. End credit Edited by Your Name over closing shot
9. Closing shot fades out.
10. Footage creates a coherent story.
11. Export as Broad Band Medium and place in proper folder on the server.
