Over 40 Kerr students participated in the ACS 24-Hour Relay for Life at Elk Grove High. Most arrived by 9:00am, but a few hardy souls, drafted for support jobs to run the Relay, arrived as early as 6:00am on Saturday, May 21. Following the opening ceremony, all relay teams were led by cancer survivors and their families, creating a poignant justification for our participation. Though our 24 hours were tough and tiring, they were only a small insight into the struggle undertaken daily by cancer patients. We know that our participation and the donations generated by the 55 teams will have major and positive effects on the battle seeking cures for cancer.

Kerr's own Ryan Medina won the Miss Relay contest, open only to male competitors (he risked it all for our school and earned an Apple iPod Shuffle for his win). Kerr Teams were thanked for being the most committed, helping with set up and with clean up. We are proud of our students. Kerr's teams raised over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society. Though water fights, tackle football, and dead-of-the-night raids against EG High teams showed their fun side, hard work and dedication showed their committed side.
