GOAL It is the goal of the Physical Education Department to provide students with opportunities to develop an optimal level of physical fitness through the use of psychomotor development activities, strength training, and wellness. Health related fitness activities are an integral part of the program. Each unit emphasizes cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and skill development. Health related fitness tests are administered to all students to help assess progress. VISION FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION The quality and productivity of each individual's life is enhanced through participation in comprehensive, sequentially planned physical education program that promotes through movement the physical, mental, emotional, and social well being of every individual in the pursuit of life-long health (Physical Education Franework, California Department of Education, 1994). CURRICULUM The emphasis in all activities is an awareness of the importance of daily exercise, time management, social skills, sportsmanship, cooperation, and enjoyment of physical activity throughout life. 7TH GRADE 8TH GRADE Movement Fundamentals Team
Handball GRADING Academic Grades include Cognitive Learning (writing and reading assignments, self evaluations, goal setting, tests, and homework) and Movement (actual performance such as: distance and timed runs, physical fitness, performance and social skills, and daily participation with an emphasis on class preparedness, improvement, and attaining self-set goals). AWARDS AND RECOGNITION All students are tested using the Superintendent's Distinguished and Elite Physical Fitness Test at least twice a year. Outstanding performers are honored by the Elk Grove Unified School District. Physical Education grades are also used to calculate grade point averages for Renaissance recognition. Throughout the year, individuals may also receive special recognition for outstanding self-improvement, social behavior, and exceptional performance. |
