The incredible Royal Reader contest lasted for about 6 weeks and ended on March 11. In this small amount of time students had the opportunity to read up to eight books, a goal that eight reached. For this contest to take place Librarians around the country over the past year read an amazing 300-400 books to determine which would be included in the contest (that's more than one book a day)! They selected the best 12 works at four age levels for kids to read. The age levels were primary, intermediate, middle school, and high school. Our students read the intermediate through high school books.
Students at Kerr had a chance to determine the top books among the eight for their level. When they completed a minimum of six of the books they were allowed to vote on their top choices. The students who read at least seven books also got a gift certificate from Borders Book Stores. Readers of all eight books received the top gift certificate from Borders. All Kerr students who completed at least two books were invited to a scrumptious breakfast held on March 31.
Eighty-one students read two or more of the books and were automatically invited to the breakfast. Twenty students read all eight books, while two others missed by only one book. James Aldag was the first, Nathan Garcia was the 2nd, and Daryl Yu was the 3rd to register their completion of all 8 books. A grand total of 329 books were read by the fifty-five students.

Please congratulate students who demonstrate a commitment to reading. Who knows, their choices may become bestsellers. Ask them which their favorite books were.
