The incredible Royal Reader contest lasts for about 6 weeks and ends in March. In this small amount of time students have the opportunity to read up to eight books, a goal that only a few will reach. For this contest to take place Librarians around the country over the past year read an amazing 300-400 books to determine which would be included in the contest (that's more than one book a day)! They selected the best 12 works at four age levels for kids to read. The age levels were primary, intermediate, middle school, and high school. Our students read the intermediate through high school books.
Students at Kerr have a chance to determine the top books among the eight for their level. When they complete a minimum of six of the books they are allowed to vote on their top choices. The students who read at least seven books also get a gift certificate from Borders Book Stores. Readers of all eight books receive the top gift certificate from Borders. All Kerr students who complete at least two books are invited to a scrumptious breakfast held in March.
40 students read two or more of the books and were automatically invited to the breakfast. 41 other readers need only one more book to be invited. (3 weeks remain in the contest) ?? students read all eight books. A grand total of ??? books were read by the ?? students. Danna Raslan is the first 8th grader to read ALL eight books. Congratulations!
