SPECIALTY PROGRAMS

House/Academy Instructional Teams
Academy/House Teams include a core group of teachers sharing the same students. These teachers meet regularly to discuss the academic progress of students, reinforce common expectations for students, provide immediate access to parents in communicating the school’s programs and/or reporting student progress or soliciting parent input and assistance. These team members engage in interdisciplinary planning of instruction, assess student work together, and serve one another as instructional coaches.

Academies prepare students for selected career pathways by:
• Meeting the preparation demands of post-secondary education and the expectations of employees.
• Helping students recognize the relationships between what they learn in school and what they can do in the future.
• Providing a structure that promotes teacher collaboration, focus on individual student needs, and continued self-directed improvements.
• Providing smaller, highly personalized learning environment within a large school setting.
• Connecting students to other students with similar interests and pursuits.
• Guiding students into appropriate class placements.
• Connecting and forming partnerships with local employers, higher level educational institutions, and other related educational programs that provide job shadowing and mentoring for academy students.
• Providing students with first hand career/vocational experience.
• Integrating academic and applied content.
