What does a top NFL player do in the off season, fresh off Super Bowl XLI? Well, if you’re Lance Briggs, you return home to help promote and encourage children to read at your former elementary schools.
A native of Sacramento, CA, Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, 26, will support the children in his community when he visits his former elementary schools through the Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation’s Project Read for HOPE Celebrity Read Aloud Tour™. The tour’s two-day stop in Sacramento, Calif. will visit six Elk Grove Unified School District schools, donating approximately 6,000 brand new books to students in an effort to promote the love of reading among children.
California State Assemblyman Curren Price, who is the ambassador for Project Read for HOPE™, will join Briggs for his story time duties.
Briggs will conduct a read-aloud session and rally at David Reese and Florin Elementary schools. During the rally, each student from grades kindergarten through sixth will receive a new book, give-a-ways, and be treated to a pizza party sponsored by SSHF, the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza, Nestle, LAX Hyundai, Murad and Random House. In addition to the Reese and Florin visits, SSHF plans to visit Anna Kirchgater, Isabelle Jackson, Samuel Kennedy, and Union Elementary schools, to donate books to more than 4,000 students in a two-day period.
Briggs’ story time sessions will be held at the following schools:
