T.R. Smedberg Middle School teacher selected as Educator of the Year

December 12, 2007

Donna McNeel, student activities director for T.R. Smedberg Middle School, has been selected as the Educator of the Year for 2007-2008 for Region 3 of the California League of Middle Schools (CLMS).

Region 3 includes Alpine, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties.  She will represent Region 3 at the CLMS state conference in Sacramento in February.

“Ms. McNeel is an excellent example of the caring and dedicated teacher that we have here at Smedberg,” said Keven MacDonald, principal at Smedberg.  “She is an innovative instructor and inspires her students to be the best.  I am thrilled that she was chosen as Educator of the Year.”

In addition to McNeel, four teachers from other middle schools in the district were recognized as Educators of the Year: Holly Bigley (Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School), Zacharie Button (Samuel Jackman Middle School), Dana LaChapelle (Toby Johnson Middle School) and Elizabeth Steele (Harriet Eddy Middle School).

The CLMS Educator of the Year award is given annually to 11 educators representing regions throughout California who exemplify educational excellence and have made significant efforts to implement elements of educational reform at the middle school level.  Nominees may be teachers, administrators, counselors or other certificated personnel.  Up to ten finalists from each region are honored locally.  One nominee receives the CLMS Middle Level Educator of the Year award at the CLMS Annual Conference in Sacramento, CA.
