Sheldon High School teacher to receive statewide construction awardMarch 3, 2009 Sheldon High School construction teacher Jeff Merker will receive the Construction Education Friend Award from the Associated General Contractors of California (AGC-CA) Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the 2009 Contractor Awards in Newport Beach, California. The Construction Education Friend Award recognizes contractors and individuals who have made significant contributions and investments in developing the construction workforce. Merker is a teacher in the Engineering/Building Trades Career Pathway at Sheldon. This career pathway combines theoretical training with hands-on projects. The career pathway prepares students for careers in architecture, engineering and city planning. Through the California Construction Education Foundation, AGC-CA develops and promotes educational programs that expand and strengthen the professionalism and effectiveness of people in the construction industry and establishes partnerships within the industry to provide outreach among K-12, colleges/universities and professional development for the existing workforce.
