What's Happening - Calendar of Events – May 11-17

Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District May 11-17:

May 11:  The EGUSD English Learner Advisory Committee will honor an outstanding English Learner from each school site in the district from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Robert L. Trigg Education Center.

May 13:  Samuel Jackman Middle School will hold a Career Day from 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.  This fun-filled event allows students to learn about different occupations to help guide their career path.  Approximately 40 presenters will attend and students will have the opportunity to go to five different breakout sessions.

May 14:  Union House Elementary School will participate in Keller Williams Realty’s RED Day 2009 throughout the day.  Volunteers from Keller Williams Realty will knock on doors of homes and local businesses near Union House to recruit volunteers to speak at Union House about their careers and the importance of attending college.  All Union House students will also receive a new backpack, courtesy of Keller Williams Realty.

May 14:  Laguna Creek High School will host the kick-off press conference celebrating EGUSD’s involvement as the first Ford PAS Resource Hub in the state of California at 10:30 a.m. The Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies (Ford PAS) program is an academically-rigorous curriculum taught through the lens of a career that prepares students for college and high-wage, high-skill fields including business, engineering, technology, alternative energy and global economics.

May 14:  The EGUSD Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Advisory Committee will honor an outstanding GATE student from each school site from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Robert L. Trigg Education Center.

May 15:  Valley High School will host their 3rd Annual Health and Fitness Expo from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.  Vendors scheduled to attend the Health & Fitness Expo include: Kaiser Permanente, HealthNet, Sutter, American Health Care, 24-Hour Fitness, Market Smart, California Family Fitness, Never A Victim, California State University, Sacramento nursing program, Vitamin Shoppe, American Heart Association, Enloe Medical Center, Complete Health and Healing, People Reaching Out, Cover the Kids, Alzheimer’s Association and VSP.

May 15:  Tonight is EGUSD 50th Anniversary/Service Learning Night at the Sacramento River Cats game at Raley Field.  The game will begin at 7:05 p.m.  The National Anthem at the game will be sung by Reyna Armour of Elitha Donner Elementary School.  EGUSD Superintendent Steven M. Ladd Ed.D. will throw out the first pitch and Service Learning students will participate in an on-field parade before the game.

May 15-17:  Cosumnes Oaks High School drama students will retell the classic story of Rydell High's senior class of 1959 in their version of “Grease.”  The musical includes crowd-favorite songs, including Greased Lightning and Summer Nights.  Shows begin at 7 p.m. on May 15-17 with a special matinee showing at 2 p.m. on May 17.  The cost of admission is $8 for seniors, children under 5 and students with an ASB sticker and $10 for general admission.
