WHAT:

Valley High School will celebrate National GEAR UP Day with activities throughout the day.  The celebration kicks off with a press conference where State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell will be honored by California GEAR UP for his commitment to education.  The celebration continues with a tour of programs at Valley High School and a discussion of the school’s “best practices” in closing the achievement gap and lowering the drop-out rate.

With the motto “Valley Culture – All Students Can and WILL Learn,” Valley High School is an excellent example of the California GEAR UP Program and public education working together to achieve results.  The California GEAR UP – Valley High School Collaborative has four components: student services, Leadership Skills Initiative, family services and whole school support.  The four components of the program provide services for the total school community – students, families, teachers, counselors and administrators.
