Elly Awards are given in seven categories: Comedy, Drama, Young People’s Musical, Young People’s Plays, Education and Original Works. Within the Education category, there are separate subcategories for musicals and nonmusical plays. The Education category was added to accommodate the growing number of middle and high schools who have become member theaters. All productions submitted by middle and high schools are judged in this category.
