EGUSD partners with UCAN to present HBCU College Tour October 16, 2009 The Elk Grove Unified School District and the United College Action Network (UCAN) have partnered to present the 16th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour. “The HBCU Tour provides a unique opportunity to experience first-hand some of the premier HBCU’s in the nation,” said Ralph Robles, head counselor for Elk Grove Unified. “The tour is an excellent way for students to learn more about admissions requirements for several schools and experience the campus environment as well.” Students will visit the following schools: Morgan State University, Howard University, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical (A&T) State University, Bennett College, Johnson C. Smith University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Tennessee State University, Fisk University and Meharry Medical School. An orientation meeting for parents, guardians, and students will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Valley High School (6300 Ehrhardt Avenue, Sacramento 95823) in their multipurpose room. The total cost of the trip is $1,555, which is payable in one payment or installments. The cost includes roundtrip airfare from Sacramento, six days and five nights hotel accommodations in quality hotels (Embassy Suites, Hilton, etc.), land transportation in air-conditioned motor coaches, campus orientation tours, meetings with college admissions officials, daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks), adult chaperone ratio of approximately 1 adult to 8 students, professional night security and pre-departure orientation meetings in Elk Grove/Sacramento, Lodi/Stockton and Modesto.
