What's Happening - Calendar of Events – November 2-7 November 2, 2009 Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District during the week of November 2-7: November 4: Today is Take Your Parent/Guardian to School Day at Toby Johnson Middle School. Activities for the day include a staff vs. students volleyball game, breakout sessions and a lunch for parents. November 4: Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School’s Parent University will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the multipurpose room. This month’s topic is 7th and 8th Grade Curriculum Standards: History and Physical Education.” November 5: Fourth, fifth and sixth grade students at Foulks Ranch Elementary School will attend Camp Falcon from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Camp Falcon is a leadership workshop led by Laguna Creek High School Student Leadership students. November 5-7: Pleasant Grove High School theater students will present “In Context,” an original comedy created by Pleasant Grove drama teacher Renee Fritz about teenagers in the world of text messaging and Facebook. Show times begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $9 general admission and $8 for students with an ASB sticker. November 6-7: Drama students at Franklin High School will present “Blood Wedding,” a story of a man struggling to find the woman of his dreams and marry her. However, a conflict with his family caught in a brutal feud thwarts his dream temporarily, creating a story of passion, sorrow and disappointment. Show times are at 7:30 p.m. on November 6 and 7, with an additional 2 p.m. show on November 7. Tickets are $8 general admission and $6 for Franklin students with an ASB sticker, seniors 55 and older and children 12 and under. November 6-7: Monterey Trail High School’s drama department will present “MacB: The MacBeth Project, by the African-American Shakespeare Company,” a play depicting Shakespeare’s tale of corrupting power as it unfolds against the backdrop of the record industry. Aspiring hip-hop mogul MacB claws his way to the top and ultimately meets his downfall amid the commentary of the Three Witches – the “not-so Dreamgirls.” Show times start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $6 for students, senior citizens and children. November 6-7: Theater students at Sheldon High School will present “Dead Man Walking” as their fall production. The play chronicles Sister Helen’s eye-opening journey with two men on death row to the execution chamber and her awakening to the realities of the criminal justice system and the use of capital punishment. Shows begin at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on November 7. Tickets are $8 for general admission.
