What's New - Calendar of Events – December 14-24 December 14, 2009 Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District December 14-24: December 16: Students at Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School will attend a “Cram and Cocoa” session from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cram and Cocoa is an opportunity for students to meet in the multipurpose room to study before finals, receive a free snack and hot cocoa, as well as have a safe place to stay out of the cold. Various teachers are available for those who may need assistance. December 16: Samuel Kennedy Elementary School will hold a Latino Family Literacy Night from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program is designed to establish family reading routines for Spanish and English speaking parents. It teaches parents how to use books to teach their children early literacy skills, such as reading recognition, numeracy, colors and shapes. December 16: Parents of students at James Rutter Middle School are invited to attend the next session of Parent University from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. This month’s topic is “7th and 8th Grade Curriculum Standards – How They Are Taught at James Rutter Middle School.” December 17: Franklin High School will hold a memorial for former Franklin student Kenneth Ta at 12:30 p.m. December 18: Parents of students at Harriet Eddy Middle School are invited to spend a day on campus at “Parents on Campus Day.” The day will start with an opening ceremony at 8:15 a.m. where the Beginning Band, Jazz Band and Symphonic Band will perform a winter concert. The Eddy Café and leadership students will provide breakfast for the parents. Eddy’s parent group, PTAC, will give a presentation along with principal Peter Lambert and other staff. Parents will attend class with their students from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. December 18: The Child Development Center at Isabelle Jackson Elementary School will host a Parents’ Night Out from 6:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Fun activities will be provided for students so parents can enjoy a “night out.” The cost is $15 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. Some of the activities will include flashlight tag, arts and crafts projects, a movie and games. A pizza dinner will be provided. December 21 – January 1: Elk Grove Unified School District traditional schedule elementary schools and all middle, high and alternative schools will be closed for Holiday Break. December 24 – January 1: Elk Grove Unified School District year-round elementary schools will be closed for Holiday Break.
