What's Happening - Calendar of Events – March 8-13

Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District during the week of March 8-13:

March 9: The EGUSD Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for special education will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Little Theater at Elk Grove High School. This month’s topic is “Looking Toward the Future: Preparing for Transition into Adulthood.”

March 9: Musical theatre students at James McKee Elementary School will present “Rowdy Kate” at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room. The musical comedy is set in the Old West in an old town. No one in the town can get married until “Rowdy Kate” gets married, so Kate’s father puts up $10,000 so someone can marry her. This brings a con man to town to marry Kate and comedy ensues.

March 10: Franklin High School invites parents of its students to attend “Take Your Parents to School Day” from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parents will enjoy a continental breakfast and entertainment in the morning, followed by an opportunity to attend classes with their child. Parents will also have the chance to participate in lunchtime activities, share a barbeque lunch with their child and attend workshops, such as gang and drugs awareness, student leadership and activities, student handbook, website and School Loop, counseling and “Organizing Your Student.” Raffle prizes will be given out to parents at the end of the day.

March 10: The Superintendent’s Art Contest Reception will be held at the Robert L. Trigg Education Center from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Students who earned first, second and third place in eight categories will be honored at the reception. The Monterey Trail High School Jazz Combo will provide musical entertainment at the reception.

March 11-13: The Franklin High School Theatre Department will present their rendition of “Hello Dolly” March 11-13. “Hello Dolly” is the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi’s efforts to marry Horace Vandergelder, the well-known half-millionaire, and disperse his money among the people. Showtimes start at 7:30 p.m. on March 5, 6, 12 and 13; at 7 p.m. on March 11 and at 2 p.m. on March 6 and 13. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for Franklin students with an ASB sticker, seniors 55 or older and children 12 and under.

March 12: The Elk Grove Unified School District will offer a free dental screening at Florin Elementary School from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The screening is open to students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Parent permission to perform the dental screening is required at registration.

March 12: Harriet Eddy Middle School students and parents are invited to help solve the case of the kidnapped classroom turtles at CSI Science Night from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The science fair project viewing and refreshments are from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Science Night activities are from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

March 12-13: The Impulse Dance Company of Monterey Trail High School will present their 5th annual main stage production “Elements of Expression” at 7 p.m. on both nights at the Sheldon High School Performing Arts Center. The show will include the dance styles of jazz, hip-hop, cultural, contemporary and lyrical. Tickets are $6 pre-sale and $8 at the door.
