What's Happening - Calendar of Events – March 15-20

March 15, 2010

Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District during the week of March 15-20:

March 15: Florin High School will host EGUSD Board member William Lugg, Jr.’s book bestowal ceremony at 1:30 p.m. in the library.  Since 2006, outgoing Board presidents from Elk Grove Unified’s Board of Education have selected a school to “bestow” a book upon.  The book is signed and dedicated to a school by the former board president and becomes a part of the collection at a school library.

March 17:  T.R. Smedberg Middle School will host an Incoming 7th Grade Student Parent Orientation Night for students on tracks B and D from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room.  The event will give parents an overview of how to register for classes, what an advisory class is and tips on how to address issues that may arise with teachers or a staff member.

March 19:  Fourth grade students at Raymond Case Elementary School will participate in their 2nd Annual Gold Rush Day.  During the event, students will participate in bona-fide “gold rush” activities, including: tent pitching, working a gold claim, panning for gold, Gold Rush-period games, butter churning and sewing.  An authentic Wells Fargo stagecoach will also be on hand for students to view.

March 20:  Joseph Kerr Middle School will host the 1st Annual Elk Grove Middle School Band Festival from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.  This festival will feature the bands of Joseph Kerr, Harriet Eddy, T.R. Smedberg, Elizabeth Pinkerton, and Katherine L. Albiani middle schools.  In addition, there will be a performance by the Cosumnes River College band under the direction of Grant Parker.  The middle school musicians will perform their festival pieces for Parker to critique.
