April 14, 2011 Elk Grove Adult and Community Education (EGACE) will offer new computer classes for seniors at the Senior Center of Elk Grove starting in May. The Senior Center of Elk Grove recently received a $15,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation and they are purchasing new computers with some of the grant funds. The computers will have the new Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft 2010 programs. Classes to be offered include: Keyboarding and Introduction to Computers This class introduces students to computer hardware and software. Students will learn the history of the computer and word processing skills. The class is being offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, May 2nd to May 25th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The fee is $69, which includes materials. Introduction to Microsoft Word 2010 This class provides students with the ability to create, edit, store and print documents. Students will learn how to work with different fonts, bulleted and numbered lists and learn quick tips for creating professional-looking documents. The class is being offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, May 2nd to May 25th from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. The fee is $69, which includes materials. Internet and Email This hands-on class will be held in a fun learning environment where students will explore the Internet and visit different websites. Students will learn to “surf” the Internet using search engines to find information and research favorite topics. Students will also learn how to compose, reply, forward and create individual and group contacts, as well as how to attach files and photos to their messages. The class is being offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 3rd to May 12th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a second session running from May 17th to May 26th. The fee is $39 and includes all materials. Introduction to Windows 7 This class provides students with the skills to use the Windows 7 Operating System. Students will learn how to create, move, copy and delete files, as well as information about folder and control system settings. The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 3rd to May 12th with a second session running from May 17th to May 26th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The fee is $39 and includes all materials.
