May 29, 2012 Students at five elementary schools throughout the Elk Grove Unified School District are ready to “Hoop It Up” with the members of KidTribe at assemblies during the week of June 4. The assemblies, sponsored by the Elk Grove Unified School District’s Food and Nutrition Services Department, are energetic “community-fitness concerts” that activate heart rates and inspire children to exercise. “Hoop-A-Pa-Loo-Za is a great activity for the students and coincides well with our district wellness policy,” said Anne Gaffney, nutrition specialist for the district. “This event is the perfect opportunity to reinforce healthy eating and exercise habits.” During the assemblies, KidTribe will engage students in Taste Bud’s nutrition reinforcement raps and Stretch-A-Rama’s tools for a flexible body to engage students in making healthy food and physical activity choices. Founded in 2002, KidTribe was a pioneer in obesity prevention and health promotion. The company began as a grass roots organization to create a happier, healthier world for today’s children through music and movement. Since then, it has engaged over 2.5 million kids and teachers in thousands of schools and homes across the United States and the United Kingdom. Click here for more information about KidTribe.
