Community members took the opportunity to meet their representatives on the Elk Grove Unified Board of Education on February 2 at seven community board meetings held across the district. Board members gave budget updates, discussed school programs and answered questions.

“These meetings are designed as an informal way for parents, community members, teachers, students and staff to spend time with the Board of Education,” said Superintendent Steven M. Ladd, Ed.D. “They offer the greater Elk Grove Unified community a chance to interact with board members in an informal atmosphere.”

Community board meetings were held at seven Elk Grove Unified schools: Arnold Adreani, Helen Carr Castello, Elliott Ranch, Isabelle Jackson and Charles Mack elementary schools, Joseph Kerr Middle School and Florin High School. Each meeting featured one of seven Elk Grove Unified board members.

The host schools provided entertainment with choirs, bands and student presentations. The fourth installment of EGUSD’s 50th Anniversary Documentary highlighting the district’s diversity was screened. Teachers and students from career academies and pathways across the district gave overviews.

Board members and administrators presented the community with a PowerPoint presentation (.pdf) that gave an overview of the district and highlighted some of its programs. The PowerPoint also included a presentation on the state’s budget crisis and how it is impacting the Elk Grove Unified School District. The gatherings ended with question-and-answer sessions.
