Amazing talent can come in small packages

On Saturday, April 18, a total of 18 gifted and entertaining acts took to the stage in the EGUSD Student Talent Showcase at the Cosumnes Oaks High School Performing Arts Center. The showcase – a special EGUSD 50th Anniversary event that raised money for student scholarships – gave some of the top student performers in the district the opportunity to show off their talents in a friendly competition.

The audience at the talent showcase also had the chance to have their say in their favorite acts through the People’s Choice Award.  At the end of the show, audience members could turn in a ballot voicing their opinion for their favorite act.  Two People’s Choice Award winners were chosen – one from the elementary grades (K-6) and one from the secondary grades (7-12).

The year-long 50th Anniversary Celebration will draw to a close in June, but there are still plenty of activities and events occurring along the way, including:

  • May 2nd – Band students from each of the district’s nine comprehensive high schools (Cosumnes Oaks, Elk Grove, Florin, Franklin, Laguna Creek, Monterey Trail, Pleasant Grove, Sheldon and Valley) will march in Elk Grove’s annual Western Festival Parade at 10 a.m.  EGUSD Superintendent Steven M. Ladd, Ed.D. as well as members of the EGUSD Board of Education will ride in the parade to commemorate the 50th Anniversary Celebration.
  • May 15th – The Sacramento River Cats will host an EGUSD Night during their game against the Albuquerque Isotopes at 7:05 p.m.
  • June 9th – The official EGUSD Time Capsule Sealing Ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Robert L. Trigg Education Center by the flagpole.  In addition to sealing the time capsule – featuring items representing the district as it exists today – the ceremony will feature an oral language performance with students from Elitha Donner Elementary School and resolutions presented by local elected officials.

The first five segments of the 50th Anniversary documentary can be viewed online (http://www.egusd.net/50years/documentary.cfm).

In addition to 50th Anniversary Celebration events and documentary, commemorative 50th Anniversary merchandise is also available for purchase.  A pin, ring, pendant and yearbook have been created to celebrate this momentous occasion.  For more information on how to purchase these items, please visit http://www.egusd.net/50years/merchandise.cfm.
