EGUSD Launches Virtual Academy

The Elk Grove Unified School District has launched an exciting new online educational opportunity for students in kindergarten through 12th grade for the 2010-2011 school year.

Any student in grades K-12 in Sacramento County – along with students in the neighboring counties of Amador, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Placer, San Joaquin, Solano, Sutter and Yolo – is eligible to enroll in the EGUSD Virtual Academy.

The EGUSD Virtual Academy provides a unique learning opportunity for the 21st century parent and student.  The online academy allows students in kindergarten through 12th grade to experience teaching and learning from virtually anywhere a computer will take them.

Curriculum for the EGUSD Virtual Academy is provided by K12, a national online program.  All courses in the academy are aligned to the State of California’s standards and benchmarks.  Classes span from core subjects to a wide variety of electives with a strong emphasis on building skills and critical thinking.

EGUSD Virtual Academy students will receive an individualized plan for their course of study.  Elk Grove Unified teachers guide student learning, providing students and parents academic guidance and support.

Highly-qualified EGUSD teachers will work with parents in monitoring student progress, attendance and content mastery while providing professional insight, instruction and support.  Parents also play a critical role in the EGUSD Virtual Academy by serving as a learning coach to support their students’ learning.  Students and their parents can access their teachers in person at five different locations throughout the district, online and by email.
