Don’t Buy the Lie Poster
Reflection Window
I selected the “Don’t Buy the Lie Poster”
assignment that I completed in my health class as my first “best work”
sample. The assignment was to design and
illustrate a poster with an anti-tobacco slogan. I selected this assignment as
one of my “best works” because I worked really hard creating a creative slogan
and drawing colorful and catchy pictures.
I tend to earn good grades on assignments that I am able to be creative
and use my artistic abilities.
The purpose of the “Don’t Buy the Lie
Poster” assignment is to educate youth on the health risks associated with
using tobacco products. Mr. Cavanaugh taught us about all of the various health
problems related to tobacco usage. He
also taught us about the false advertisement that the tobacco companies use to
try and encourage teenagers to use their products. I learned that nicotine is highly addictive
and once young people start using tobacco it is extremely difficult for them to
stop. I learned so much from Mr.
Cavanaugh in this unit, I really hope that my poster prevents some teenagers
from using tobacco.
This assignment falls into the “future
plans and goals” category for me. I
chose this category because I plan to go into marketing and advertising as a
career. I am a very talented
artist. My strengths are in the area of
sketching and shading. I am hoping to
complete some of my community service hours with my mom’s friend, who is an
advertising executive for the Sacramento Kings. I will continue to take art
classes at PGHS and follow through on my community service hours in the area of
marketing and advertising. The “Don’t
Buy the Lie Poster” assignment was a perfect opportunity for me to showcase my artistic
talents and add a piece of work to my Portfolio that is relevant to my future
goal of a career in the area of marketing and advertising.
