McKINNEY-VENTO BILL
In January, President Bush signed into law the
No Child Left behind Act of 2001, which reauthorizes
the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act’s
Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY)
and goes into effect July 1, 2002. The act ensures
educational rights and protections for children
and youth experiencing homelessness and is intended
to facilitate the enrollment, attendance and success
in school of homeless children and youths as well
as to ensure these children and youths have equal
access to the same free, appropriate public education
as provided to all others. A summary of amendments
and a copy of the legislation is available at:
