SAFE/DRUG FREE SCHOOLS
Program Overview:
The goal of Safe and Drug Free Schools and Tobacco
Use Prevention Education programs is to help all
students reach their potential academically, socially,
emotionally, and physically free from the limitations
that are imposed by violence, drugs, alcohol and
tobacco. The SDFS/TUPE programs provide prevention
services in the form of education about substance
abuse, violence and bullying; training in essential
life skills; parent education; peer leadership;
and the implementation of positive youth development
strategies. Intervention programs include tobacco
use cessation groups on high school campuses and
a Saturday Series for students who are struggling
with tobacco, drugs/alcohol and violence issues.
The SDFS/TUPE programs uses data from the California
Healthy Kids Survey to set objective performance
indicators to measure progress as we work toward
the implementation of research-validated prevention
and intervention strategies.
