Steps to Writing a Prompt

  1. Read the selection carefully.
  2. Read and understand the prompt

    a. Break apart the prompt, understand each of the words.

    b. Decide how many paragraphs are needed in your response.

  3. Answer the prompt with an assertion or an opinion.

    a. How do you feel about the selection?

  4. Create a graphic organizer. Your graphic organizer should reflect the prompt
  5. Write a rough draft from the graphic organizer.

 

Be sure to include:

  • An introduction that concludes an assertion or opinion and cites the passage and title.
  • Evidence from the text and from your own prior knowledge and experiences that support your assertion/opinion
  • A conclusion that restates your assertion/opinion and brings the draft to a close.
