Directions:  Answer the questions below by navigating the Time of Remembrance Project website.  Answer questions completely.  First five completed papers get extra credit.

 

Open the following website http://www.bestnetsacramento.org/tor and begin with the photo galleries on the left hand side of the page:

 

  1. Click on Bob Uyeyama and look at his photo gallery – what school did he attend?

 

  1. Click on Christina Umeda and look at her photo gallery – which camp was she interned in?

 

  1. Click on Marielle Tsukamoto and look at her photo gallery – which camp was her family interned in?

 

  1. Click on Molly Kimura and look at her photo gallery – in which camp was her family interned?

 

  1. Click on Roy Sato and look at his photo gallery – Roy served with what military battalion?  (Bonus – In what country was he stationed?)

 

  1. Go to the Japanese American Archival Collection.  Under search type in Elk Grove and press Submit.  How many image results do you get?

 

  1. Select one of the images from the JAAC and answer the following questions – what is the title of the image? What is the description of the image?  What feeling do you get looking at the image? Why did you select this image?

 

Click on the TOR Interview Collection.  Listen to the introduction by Gail Desler and answer the following question – Why is the Time of Remembrance (TOR) project important?

 

 

Looking at the pull down menu – how many people are included in this interview collection? 

 

 

Click on Jerry Enomoto’s interview Clip 5 and listen to his interview – how does in describe the similarities to Japanese internment and today.

 

 

 

Click on Jim Tanaka’s interview Clip 4 and listen to his interview – if you had to leave your home – what would you take to the camps? How would you feel about leaving things behind knowing they wouldn’t be there when you returned?

 

 

 

Click on Heidi Sakazaki interview Clip 1 and listen to her interview – what was her mother’s reaction to the attack on Pearl Harbor?  How is this similar to the response by people of Arab decent after 9-11?

 

 

 

Click on Ken Ouchida interview Clip 5 – How did his uncle, who was fighting oversees for the United States describe the war?  Why did his uncle say he was fighting?
