BILL GRAHAM FOUNDATION
The Bill Graham Foundation is currently offering grants of up to $4,500 for progrmas/projects of grassroots organizations working in the areas of music, the arts and educaiton. We also fund social owrk, environmental protection and spiritual and compassionate projects in our community. We seek to assist those whose needs are not served by larger philanthropic orgnizaitons. Our geographic scope is primarily but not absolutely limited to hte Bay Area and Northern California.

FENDER MUSIC FOUNDATION
The Fender Music Foundation provides in-kind grants for music instruction for people of any age who would not otherwise have the opportunity to make music. Most grants awarded fall into the following categories:
In-school music classes, in which the students make music;
After-school music programs that are not run by the school;
Music therapy programs, in which the participants make the music.
Funds: Grant awards range from $500 to $5,000 in value, and consist of traditional instruments and the equipment necessary to play them.

THE
MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS FOUNDATION
The foundation promotes instrumental music nationwide
by partnering with business, schools, and communities
to provide new and refurbished musical instruments
to qualified schools and individual students.
The Melody Program targets qualified K-12 school
music programs that take place during the school day. The Solo
Program targets outstanding student musicians
who are financially limited and unable to obtain
an appropriate instrument. The Special Projects
Program targets after school music programs.
Funds: No cash grants or support for anything
other than musical instruments are given. Grants
for repairs and new instruments typically range
between $500 and $10,000 in retail value

The Heineman Foundation provides seed money to start-up projects and new projects within existing organizations. The foundation's interest areas include music education; research into prevention, education and treatment of childhood illnesses; and programs that enable youth to think, create and communicate effectively.

Jo-Ann Stores and the Kids In Need Foundation are partnering together to fund projects that make creative use of common teaching aids, approach curriculum from an imaginative angle, or tie nontraditional concepts together for the purpose of illustrating commonalities.

MOCKINGBIRD
FOUNDATION
The Mockingbird Foundation Inc., which generates
charitable proceeds from fans of the rock band
Phish, funds music education programs for children.
The foundation looks for projects that encourage
creative expression in all musical forms (including
composition, instrumentation, vocalization, and
improvisation), but also support more basic needs
within conventional instruction. The foundation
is particularly interested in funding programs
that benefit disenfranchised groups.

TARGET
ARTS IN EDCUATION GRANTS
Target believes that exposure to
the arts in an important part of every student's
education. Their Arts in Education Grants program
helps give students opportunities to explore,
experience, and create visual art, music and drama.
Funds through this program may be used to bring
artists/performers to schools, send students to
see performance or exhibitions, and provide opportunities
for students to participate in arts workshops. Those who have successfully received
these grants indicate that close involvement with
the local Target store manager is critical for
success. Grant guidelines and applications
are available at local Target stores.
