BEN
& JERRY'S FOUNDATION
The Ben & Jerry's Foundation
offers competitive grants to not-for-profit, grassroots
organizations throughout the United States which
facilitate progressive social change by addressing
the underlying conditions of societal and environmental
problems. The foundation supports programs and
projects that are examples of creative problem
solving. Projects must lead to societal, institutional,
and/or environmental change, address the root
causes of social or environmental problems, and
lead to new ways of thinking and acting.
NOTE: Public schools are not considered
"grassroots organizations" under the
Ben & Jerry's Foundation's definition. Grassroots
organizations that support public education are
eligible to apply.
Funds: $1,000 to
$15,000

DISNEY MINNIE GRANTS
The Walt Disney Company and Youth Service America will soon award grants to support youth-led service projects. Grants support youth, ages 5-14, in planning and implementing projects in their community. Projects that encourage applicants to address environmental issues and empower children as young citizens will be given priority.

PACIFICARE
FOUNDATION
PacifiCare Foundation's mission
is to improve the quality of lives of the disadvantaged
or under served in areas where PacifiCare Health
Systems does business.
The foundation accomplishes its
mission primarily through four focus areas including:
- Child/Youth - Including child
care, youth activity programs, programs to support
at-risk youth and counseling programs.
- Education - Including school
programs that promote self-esteem, encourage
academic achievement and the development of
specific skills, literacy programs and training
programs.
- Human/Social Services - Including
programs that provide housing, shelters, education,
community development, crime prevention,
food, transportation and other social services
for targeted populations.
- Senior - Including senior
social services, nutrition, education, volunteer,
and adult daycare programs.

PAY
IT FORWARD FOUNDATION
Pay It Forward Mini-Grants are designed to fund one-time-only service-oriented projects identified by youth as activities they would like to perform to benefit their school, neighborhood, or greater community. Projects must contain a "pay it forward" focus - that is, they must be based on the concept of one person doing a favor for others, who in turn do favors for others, with the results growing exponentially - to be considered in the grant making process. WE DO NOT GIVE GENERAL EDUCATIONAL GRANTS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF YOUR SCHOOL, THE PURCHASE OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, ETC.
Funds: $50 to $500.

Deadline: September 15th for first semester funding; February 15th for second semester funding.

FOUNDATION
The Verizon Foundation is in the business of improving lives in literacy, knowledge and a readiness for the 21st Century.
Specifically, we help people to:
- Increase their literacy and educational achievement
- Avoid being an abuser or a victim of domestic violence
- Achieve and sustain their health and safety
Eligible organizations seeking grants from the Verizon Foundation must be prepared to track and report program outcomes as well as specific results that demonstrate measurable human impact. In the grant application, organizations must indicate what outcomes are targeted through programming and what results, as specified on the grant application, the organization will measure.

to $10,000

FOUNDATION GOOD WORKS PROGRAM
Administered locally through individual stores,
the Wal-Mart Foundation provides funding to support
community initiatives. Store managers and employees
take an active role in identifying and selecting
community grass-roots organizations and causes
to receive funding.
