A+ FOR ENERGY

The A+ for Energy program was developed by British Petroleum (BP) to recognize teachers for innovation and excellence in teaching energy and/or energy conservaiton in the classroom. PreK-12 teachers who are currently teaching in a public or private, accredited or licensed school are encouraged to apply.

ACTUARIAL FOUNDATION ADVANCING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT GRANTS

K-12 schools in the United States and Canada are eligible to apply for funds to support math mentoring programs that involve actuaries as volunteers. Advancing Student Achievement is a program that brings together actuaries and educators in local classroom environments with the belief that interaction with real-world mentors will boost students interest and achievement in math. The Actuarial Foundation provides a local network of actuaries ready to participate, as well as suggestions on how to integrate math concepts from the workplace into the classroom. Groups applying for grants will be given wide latitude in designing programs that enhance learning and create a “love of math” in each student.

AEROSPACE EDUCATION FOUNDATION

The Educator Grant program is designed to promote aerospace education activities in classrooms from kindergarten through twelfth grades. The program encourages development of innovative aerospace activities within the prescribed curriculum. The program also encourages establishing an active relationship between the school and the local Air Force Association organization.

Funds: Up to $250

Application Deadlines: Grant applications will be accepted between August 1 and November 15 with the Grant awarded by January 15

AGRICULTURE EDUCATION CHALLENGE (USDA)

The Agriculture Department invites applications to promote and strengthen secondary education and two-year post secondary education in agriscience and agribusiness. Proposals must focus on secondary schools and at least one of the following education need areas: enhancing agriculture education through curriculum improvements; increasing faculty teaching competencies; expanding career opportunities, integrating agricultural education into the curriculum; facilitating interaction with other academic institutions; and expanding student and workforce diversity.

Funds: Up to $35,000 each for solo projects and $50,000 for joint projects

AMERICAN HONDA FOUNDATION

The American Honda Foundation makes grants to support youth and scientific education, scholarship and fellowship programs, and scientific and educational organizations. The foundation makes seed, operating, project/program, general/continuing support, challenge, matching, conditional multi-year, and proactive grants in addition to scholarships and fellowships. Projects must have a broad and/or national focus. The foundation does not fund small, local, or regional projects.

The foundation gives preference to projects that promote company philosophy. Applications should describe organizations and/or projects that are imaginative, creative, youthful, scientific, humanistic, innovative, and forward-thinking. Programs should address youth and scientific education. In addition, programs should be innovative and creative, dedicated to improving the human condition, and broad in scope and impact. Proposals should suggest improvements for the future and offer tangible solutions for current problems plaguing society.

Funds: Awards range between $10,000 to $100,000, with an average of $40,000 to $80,000.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF AERONAUTICS AND ASTRONAUTICS CLASSROOM GRANTS

The AIAA Foundation is a non-profit educational organization formed to devote more attention and more resources to the education of current and future aerospace professionals.

The AIAA is interested in sponsoring classroom activities that make learning science fun. Funding through the AIAA Classroom Grants program supports development and implementation of high-quality science, mathematics, and technology curriculum. Grant funding can be used for classroom demonstration kits, classroom science supplies, or other materials to enhance the teaching and learning of science, mathematics, and technology.

Eligibility is limited to AIAA members (application for AIAA Educator Associate members is free).

Funds: up to $200 per individual request. Each school is limited to up to $1,000 per calendar year.

AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP makes contributions to nonprofit organizations involved with education, youth, and early childhood development, among other areas. The Bayer Foundation seeks to support solid science education which includes skills such as critical thinking, analyzing, working in teams and adapting to change - and/or environmental education and conversation.

CONOCOPHILLIPS

Gas and energy company ConocoPhillips makes philanthropic contributions to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations or political subdivisions for charitable programs closely tied to corporate goals. Areas of interest are: education and youth, comprising more than half of company contributions, to foster positive mental and physical well-being of youths; civic and arts, employee volunteerism; safety and social services; and the environment.

DREYER'S FOUNDATION

Grants will be given to K-12 public education and programs that help students to succeed in core academic subjects and graduate to post secondary education and/or vocational training. Priority will be given to programs, either in-school or after school, which are provided in sequential, consistent basis to students throughout the year. Priority is given to programs that (1) affect a significant number of youngsters; (2) that teach young people how to learn; and (3) are unique and creative.

Large grant proposals (over $3,000) are reviewed on an annual basis and must be submitted prior to January 15th of each year. An organization may submit only one proposal annually.

Small grant proposals (under $3,000) are considered every month. To be considered, the application must arrive by the 7th day of the month, by 5:00 p.m.

ENGINEERING INFORMATION FOUNDATION

The Engineering Information Foundation solicits proposals for its Women in Engineering Program, which provides funding for developmental projects, instructional projects and training programs that encourage young women to choose a career in engineering.

Programs should focus on encouraging middle school girls to pursue degrees in engineering, and improving retention rates for undergraduate women in engineering. Proposals should include how the program contributes to the knowledge base regarding what works and what doesn't work in increasing the number of women in engineering.

Funds: Grants range from $5,000 to $25,000. Matching grants are encouraged.

GENCORP FOUNDATION

Education is the GenCorp Foundation's highest priority. Educational grants are awarded to:

· K-12 schools that address specific improvements and opportunities for academic excellence in the areas of math and science

· Colleges and universities whose activities and programs support and encourage educational excellence in science and engineering and other endeavors related to GenCorp's core technology competencies

· Higher educational programs that promote diversity and provide educational opportunity to economically disadvantaged students.

The foundation generally does not make grants for school trips, tours, or athletic equipment, or for courtesy advertising, benefits, raffle tickets, and other fund raising events involving purchase of tables, tickets, or advertisements.

GOODRICH CORPORATION FOUNDATION

Under K-12 education, the foundation will consider proposals designed to restructure the education system for the purpose of improving academic achievement. Science and engineering emphasis is coveted, and the foundation supports professional development in math and science for elementary-level teachers. The foundation also will help junior high and high school students and teachers by supporting projects that link math and science in the classroom to their application in the workplace.

INTEL IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Grants awarded through the Intel Corporation's community giving program support K-12 and higher education initiatives that advance science, math, and technology education. The company is particularly interested in educational projects that reach women and traditionally under served populations.

Typically, Intel grants will NOT support the following: capital projects (including endowments), private schools, sporting events or teams, health care organizations, arts organizations, special occasion goodwill advertising (including program books and yearbooks), fundraising activities or events, travel or tours, school extra-curricular activities or clubs, or general operating expenses.

INTERNATIONAL PAPER COMPANY FOUNDATION

The International Paper Company Foundation addresses existing and emerging educational needs, as well as short-term, critical civic needs where the company operates. In regard to education, the foundation focuses on environmental education, literacy, and minority career development.

Eligibility: 501(c)(3) organizations and certain municipal, county, state and federal entities, such as school districts.

NEW!MONSANTO FUND

The Monsanto Fund believes that the more young people understand about science, the more they will be able to affect the quality of their lives in the years ahead.

Particular emphasis is placed on: Professional development of teachers; creative and innovative science education programs for elementary and secondary students; science outreach programs in the community; Science resource materials and equipment; and collaboration in science literacy. NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION

The initiative promotes and supports the incorporation of NASA content and programs into science, technology and mathematics in fourth to ninth grade classrooms nationwide. Teams of teachers and a school administrator are selected to design action plans to address challenges in science, and work together with NASA through summer professional development workshops, ongoing research, student programs and more.

NATIONAL WEATHER ASSOCIATION EDUCATION GRANTS

The National Weather Association Education Committee is offering teachers in grades K-12 grants to strengthen teaching in the field of meteorology. Teachers can use these funds to take an accredited course in atmospheric sciences, attend relevant workshops or conferences, or purchase scientific materials or equipment for the classroom. These grants are awarded in honor of Sol Hirsch, who retired in 1992 after being the National Weather Association Executive Director for 11 years.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM GRANT PROGRAM

Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, International Paper and National Geographic Explorer classroom magazine are all sponsors of the Outdoor Classroom Grant Program. The program is designed to provide schools with additional resources to improve their science curriculum by engaging students in hands-on experiences outside a traditional classroom.

Funds: $20,000 to some districts or schools with major outdoor classroom projects; grants of up to $2,000 for at least 100 schools.

SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS

Samsung Electronics recently announced that it's seeking applications for its 2007 Hope for Education essay contest. Hope is an educational and philanthropic program designated to minimize the technology gap in the educational system by providing winners with Samsung technology and Microsoft software. Those who enter the contest must submit a 100-word essay about their school, answering the question, "What is the single most significant benefit that technology can provide the classroom?"

Funds: Grand prize is $200,000 worth of technology products. There are also 30 second prize awards of $60,000 worth of technology and software products.

The Schering-Plough Foundation is dedicated to working in areas where the company has operations. They seek to enhance the quality of life of the residents in those areas. Toshiba America Foundation is offering a chance for teachers to enhance and expand their curriculums. The foundation is particularly interested in projects planned and led by individual teachers or teams of teachers for their own classrooms.

Projects funded by the foundation enable forward thinking teachers to use science and mathematics to engage students in positive and challenging learning experiences.
