BAMFORD-LAHEY CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION

The Foundation was established in July of 2000 for the purpose of conducting and supporting programs that will enhance the linguistic, cognitive, social, and emotional development of children.

At this time, the Foundation is most interested in projects designed to enhance the language development of children who have difficulty learning their native language. Of particular interest are projects that focus on:

  • Development and evaluation of intervention strategies
  • Use of technology in language assessment, intervention, and research
  • Influence of health, in particular nutrition, on language learning
  • Dissemination of information to parents and professionals
  • Simulation of applied research in the area of developmental language disorders

Projects for children with cognitive, emotional, attention-deficit, motor or sensory disorders will not be considered unless the project has implications for language learning for children who do not have such problems. The same criterion applies to projects related to typical or bilingual language development. Projects must have broad impacts beyond meeting the needs of a single organization or community. Initial contact with the foundation is through a letter of intent to apply, submitted online. The Bamford-Lahey Children’s Foundation will not review unsolicited proposals nor will it respond to inquiries by mail or phone.

Funds: annually one or two grants of $20,000

Application deadline: accepts letters of intent year-round
