Tree Planting at Laguna Creek Bypass

On January 7, 2006, Calvine High School students participated in a community effort with Sacramento Tree Foundation and the Laguna Creek Watershed Council planting hundreds of native trees and bushes along the Laguna Creek Bypass in North Elk Grove. The thought is that restoring the natural habitat will make the Laguna Creek channel appear as it did before the arrival of Europeans to the area in the 1800's. Below are some student quotes on the importance of their volunteerism.

The value of the trees we planted promotes health, scenery and gives flood control to the local neighborhoods as water stays in the channel instead of flooding.
                   Delray M., Class of 2006

Having trees growing will make Laguna Creek Bypass look a lot better.
                   Joseph S., Class of 2006

Volunteering helps the community.
                   Julie G., Class of 2006

We help the community by volunteering; the scenery will look better in a couple of years because we planted the trees.
                   Ricardo F., Class of 2006

Volunteering was good because it felt good doing something for the community; giving back and just making a difference.
                   Praneel S., Class of 2006

The importance of volunteering is we all went out and worked together to get the job done quick and easy.  If we didn’t volunteer to help the community it probably wouldn’t have got done.
                   Marquice D., Class of 2006

We planted trees to restore the creek’s scenery and make the place look nice
                   Josef J., Class of 2006
