January 7, 2022

Dear Elk Grove Unified Students, Parents and Families,

We thank everyone for their patience and perseverance this week. First and foremost, please closely monitor your children for symptoms and keep them home if symptomatic or if exposed to someone who tests positive. Our most effective tool to keep each other safe and keep students and staff in school is not exposing others to the virus.

We tested hundreds of students, staff and families this week through our partnership with COVID Clinic. While obtaining tests continues to be challenging, our 11 testing sites have largely remained open all week with a couple of brief exceptions due to staffing limitations. We are happy to provide this service and greatly appreciate those who took advantage of this opportunity. We are also grateful for the many families that took the precaution of keeping students home until they received a negative test result. Again, thank you.

We continue to work collaboratively with our health partners, and we are actively monitoring positive cases. We are also paying very close attention to attendance rates, requests/needs for substitutes and bus route delays. With the support of dedicated substitutes, current staff filling vacancies and many retirees stepping up, we are managing to keep our schools open for in-person learning.

As COVID-19 conditions continue to evolve, everyone is doing their very best to keep up with the changes, get tested and still make learning a priority. District officials are closely monitoring protocol guideline updates from the CDC, the state and the county. As we bring the week to a close, we want to offer you a brief recap of actions taken to support a safe return to school.

  • Wednesday, the District received over 63,000 On/Go COVID home testing kits from the state, and the kits were distributed Thursday to all students attending school in-person. Thank you to the dedicated staff that made this monumental task possible. More information about the kits can be found in our January 6 community message.
  • Thursday, January 6, 2022, we received a Health Order from Sacramento County Public Health stating that all public meetings, including school board meetings, are to be held virtually until further notice.

Our District COVID-19 Dashboard continues to be updated. Please note that due to the high number of positive cases, there may be a slight delay in the online update, as the priority is to determine exposure and notify those in close contact. For those who have taken steps to pre-test upon returning to school, notifications will be going out to those who have tested positive and further quarantine instructions will be provided.

As we receive and review updated guidelines, we will share any changes in protocol that may affect students or staff. Please continue to be supportive of our mitigation strategies for getting vaccinated/boosted, wearing a mask, maintaining healthy hand hygiene and distancing.
