July 23, 2021

Dear Elk Grove Unified Students, Parents and Families,

Our 2021-2022 school year is off and running with full in-person learning at our 18 year round schools and beginning in August, we will be opening the remainder of our schools to welcome all students back to school. In alignment with local (SCPH), state (CDPH) and federal (CDC) public health guidance, we will implement COVID-19 mitigation strategies necessary for keeping our schools safe and open. Unlike last year, the availability of COVID-19 vaccines and readily available testing plays a significant role in our ability to reopen schools and keep them open. However, community spread and the number of people vaccinated continue to be important factors. On July 14th, our Community Update provided a brief outline of the new CDPH K-12 school setting guidance requirements that we will be implementing and we have revised our EGUSD COVID-19 Safety Plan that was posted in February 2021 to now follow an updated Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.

As noted earlier, this revised plan incorporates the implementation of the new CDC, CDPH and SCPH guidance and requirements for opening our schools during the COVID-19 pandemic and based on the availability of an effective vaccine and rapid testing. We will continue to follow our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports for compliance with our safety protocols and we will continue to report on-site positive cases through our EGUSD COVID-19 Dashboard.

Our EGUSD Community is welcome and invited to offer input and feedback on this plan by visiting this link: Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan

New! Student Board Member By-Laws
Elk Grove Unified students presented a Student Board Member Proposal at the July 20, 2021 Board meeting. The proposal recommends that a Student Board Member should be selected from candidate pools that represent each comprehensive and alternative high school in Elk Grove Unified. Each school will hold elections, and elected candidates would move forward to be interviewed with one student officially selected by the EGUSD School Board.

The proposal also states that the Student Board Member will be seated with and act as a member of the Board in open sessions and be allowed to cast “preferential votes,” or formal expressions and opinions recorded in Board meeting minutes and cast before official Board votes. Student Board Member votes would not be included in determining the required number of votes to carry any measure.

Student Board Members will serve a one-year term.
