October 15, 2021

Dear Elk Grove Unified Students, Parents and Families,

Conditions continue to evolve with COVID-19 and our schools remain open for in-person learning. Little by little, we are expanding our learning services and with careful and mindful planning, we are opening our facilities for greater access to meet student and community needs. We are preparing for fall with public health guidance and adapting school activities to allow for more student engagement that will benefit their social and emotional wellness. In this update, we provide public health information, student and family resources, employment opportunities and organizational updates. We hope this information keeps you informed during this time of ever changing environments and new situations.

PUBLIC HEALTH SAFETY
EGUSD has begun the mandated employee vaccination verification process, which includes tracking and applicable testing protocols. In order to accommodate the need for weekly testing of applicable staff and to provide a readily available option for families needing to complete a PCR test due to COVID-19 symptoms, thanks to an agreement with The COVID Clinic, we have expanded our testing capabilities and offer multiple PCR test locations for students, their families and staff. This added resource lessens the load on our COVID-19 isolation room staff and supplies plus offers our employees the option to test at their school site in the COSI room. You can download the attached flyer for information on the EGUSD COVID-Clinic locations and their hours of operation.

With flu season now upon us, we encourage you to get your flu shot and for eligible individuals to get your COVID-19 vaccine or booster shot. Note: the third dose Pfizer booster shot is now available to those who have had their second Pfizer dose 6+ months ago. The third dose Pfizer booster shot only applies to essential workers (which includes teachers and school staff) and immunocompromised individuals.

NEGOTIATIONS PROGRESS

The District continues to actively recruit bus drivers and has one of the only paid school bus driver training programs in the state. The District currently has several candidates in their training and certification program and are constantly seeking additional candidates. The following provides an update regarding the status of negotiations with the ATU Union. Throughout the negotiations process, the District has been focused on addressing the impact that the lack of bus drivers has on its ability to transport its students, and its commitment to do what is best for students. At the same time, District officials have remained committed to providing all District employees with a comparable total compensation package.
