Superintendent's Message

EGUSD continues to seek entrepreneurial financial streams through state, federal and private grants that assist in funding programs that would otherwise not be possible.  These grants range from small to large but they all make a difference in the lives of our students and colleagues.

EGUSD is one of three school districts statewide to receive a 2012 California Math/Science Partnership grant.  This grant, which is $2.5 million over three years, will provide intensive professional development in the sciences for about seventy 6th through 8th grade teachers through partnerships with California State University, Sacramento and University of California, Davis.

This follows a previously awarded $4 million California Math/Science Partnership Grant that supports intensive professional development for 6th through 8th grade math teachers.  Together these grants will assist the district in remaining on the cutting edge of teacher training and development.   Strong teaching leads to dynamic outcomes for students.

Three EGUSD high school academy programs have been awarded California Partnership Academy Clean Technology & Renewable Energy grants.  These three grants were from among 21 awarded across the state.  The more than $465,000 will assist in developing and furthering the work of Elk Grove High School’s Sustainable Agriculture and Green Education (SAGE) Academy, Laguna Creek High School’s Green Energy Technology Academy (GETA) and Pleasant Grove High School’s Computer Assisted Drafting and Design (CADD) Academy programs.  Like EGUSD’s other career academies and pathways, these programs integrate high academic standards with career skills, preparing our students for college and the workforce.

In addition, 32 of our schools are benefiting from the generosity of Kaiser Permanente, which presented our district with mini-grants to enhance physical activity programs at our schools. These $1,000 grants are being used in a variety of ways to encourage healthy choices through physical fitness.

This is just a snapshot of some of the grants that our district has been awarded over the past few months.  We continue to look for new opportunities that are available to help our students.
