What's Happening - Calendar of Events – September 8-11 September 8, 2009 Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District during the week of September 8-11: September 9: Katherine L. Albiani Middle School will hold their first Parent University workshop from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. This month, parents will complete a tutorial on School Loop. September 9-10: William Daylor, Florin, Laguna Creek, Monterey Trail and Valley high school students will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the worlds of social media and environmental conservation through the Ford Smithsonian Scholars in the Schools program. Two Smithsonian experts will meet with EGUSD high school students and faculty to discuss the use of new technologies in the fields of social media and environmental conservation over the course of both days. September 10: C.W. Dillard Elementary School students and staff will participate in their annual school-wide Jog-A-Thon from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Money raised from the Jog-A-Thon will be used for classroom and school supplies, library costs and the 6th grade science trip. September 10: The Elk Grove Community Foundation will hold their annual Spotlight Elk Grove event from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the SES Hall. Spotlight Elk Grove is the premier event to benefit the Elk Grove Community Foundation. This event blends a "Taste of…." type event with a service industry tradeshow. Guests receive a hors d’oeuvres plate, a bag for promotional items and a program for the evening with a map of the business locations in the event. September 12: Harriet Eddy Middle School and Toby Johnson Middle School will each hold E-Waste Recycling events at their schools. Items accepted include monitors, televisions, desktop and notebook PCs, VCRs, stereo equipment, speakers, keyboards, mice, PDAs, digital cameras, ZIP drives, telephones, cell phones, printers, copiers, scanners and fax machines. Eddy Middle School will accept items from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at their school. Johnson Middle School will accept items from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in their parking lot.
