October 13:  The second of four community budget informational meetings will be held at Florin High School in the theater from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.  These meetings will provide parents, staff, students and the community an opportunity to hear information and ask questions about the district’s budget cuts.

October 15:  At 10:15 a.m., the Elk Grove Unified School District – all schools, departments and offices – will participate in The Great California ShakeOut, an annual statewide earthquake drill.  This year’s drill will be the largest drill ever.

October 16:  Students at Jessie Baker School will participate in the 4th Annual Pajama Day Read-A-Thon throughout the day.  For every 100 books read, Scholastic, Inc. will give 100 books to schools and families in need.  Volunteers from EGUSD departments, EGUSD school board, Elk Grove High School students, First Baptist Church and the City of Elk Grove will read to students in support of Baker’s literacy program.

October 16:  Representatives from the Jazz Combo of “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band will perform at Isabelle Jackson Elementary School at two assemblies at 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.  Members of the jazz combo will also speak to students about the history of the band.

October 16:  Elk Grove Elementary School will hold its 4th Annual Multicultural Fair – “One World, One Dream” – from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Elk Grove’s Multicultural Faire provides the opportunity to showcase various cultures that are represented within their school community.  The free evening event will feature entertainment, food from around the world and a cultural fashion show.
