Foulks Ranch Elementary School is ready to “Cool the Earth”

October 22, 2009

Foulks Ranch Elementary School will kick off their new energy conservation program “Cool the Earth” at assemblies on Friday, October 23 and Friday, November 6.

“The Cool the Earth program empowers students with the knowledge and tools to take action in their own homes,” said Mary Beth Kropp, principal at Foulks Ranch. “The program will impart the next generation with lifelong skills to use at home, in their communities and beyond.”

Cool the Earth educates K-8 students and their families about global warming and inspires them to take simple actions to reduce their carbon emissions. It is a 3-5 month program run entirely by volunteers – headed up by a school coordinator.

Cool the Earth takes place outside of classroom time during lunch and recess. The program begins with a kick-off assembly introducing the concepts of climate change to the student body. During this time, kids receive Action Coupon booklets filled with low or no cost carbon saving initiatives to bring home to their families. After the launch, individual Actions of the Month are highlighted on campus monthly encouraging students to take specific actions to reduce their carbon emissions.
