Elk Grove Unified also recognizes the important role buses play in saving lives, reducing traffic and improving air quality. The district operates one of the cleanest fleets in California. Thanks to grants from our local air quality district, Elk Grove Unified currently operates 20 buses that run on clean, compressed natural gas. In addition, the district received grant funding that enabled the placement of 58 particulate traps on buses - dramatically reducing emissions. Currently, Elk Grove Unified is pursuing other grant opportunities to test one of the first hybrid electric school buses when they become available.

UPDATE TO SERVICE REDUCTION FOR 2011-2012 GRADES 7-12:
Reinstatement of AM Transportation Service for Middle and High School Service Areas
On Tuesday, June 7, 2011, the Elk Grove Unified School District’s Board of Education authorized staff to notify parents that morning transportation for students in grades 7th through 12th will be reinstated in school bus service areas for the 2011-2012 school year.
This direction follows further staff analysis of the impact of reductions to transportation on student enrollment. Staff recommended the continuation of the morning service after a review of the input and data demonstrated that the elimination of morning transportation would likely result in a greater loss of Average Daily Attendance revenue for the district than the proposed savings. While EGUSD still faces a budget shortfall and ongoing inadequate funding from the state, this decision is in the best interest of both students and the district.
