Hello Elk Grove Unified Students, Families and Staff,
As you may have heard, the Pfizer vaccine was recently approved for use with adolescents aged 12 years and older. Appointments and opportunities to receive the Pfizer vaccine are becoming widely available with many local providers. Whether you want to get vaccinated because of vulnerable family members, to participate in school activities with ease of mind or because you just feel it’s the right thing to do, we encourage students, staff and community members who are eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Getting fully vaccinated as soon as possible can help people avoid quarantining if exposed to COVID-19 unless they become symptomatic and for our graduates, it’s one less thing to worry about before heading off to college.
Click here for COVID-19 vaccination information through MyTurn. Please share this information with other friends and family members. Note: Until California’s mask mandate is lifted, in EGUSD schools, we will continue to follow our COVID-19 safety protocols of wearing face masks, social distancing and hand washing.
Congratulations to the Class of 2021! Our schools are busy making final graduation ceremony preparations and if you have any graduation questions, please check with your student’s school. We will be asking all graduation attendees to follow these social distancing guidelines:
For graduation attendee safety in a large crowd situation:
- Social distancing of 6 feet is required.
- Masks are required upon entering the stadium and throughout the ceremony.
- Graduates, household members and staff should not attend if feeling ill, have COVID-19 symptoms, or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
- Due to COVID-19 restrictions, please exit the stadium immediately after the ceremony.
By-Trustee Area Election System
At the May 4th Board Meeting, the Board adopted Resolution No. 67, 2020-21. This resolution redeclared the Board’s intent to transition to a by-trustee area election system starting with the 2022 election. A by-trustee area election system means that each trustee must reside within a designated trustee-area boundary and would be elected only by the voters in that trustee area. The Board held its first Pre-Map Hearing also at the May 4th meeting and on May 18, 2021, the Board will hold the second Pre-Map hearing as well as a hearing to seek a procedural waiver from the State Board of Education to avoid the costs associated with an election to affirm its proposed transition from the current hybrid “at-large” election system to a by-trustee election system.
If you are interested in this topic, we encourage your participation in the process during the May 18, 2021 Board Meeting. It is anticipated that the Board will discuss this matter further during multiple Board Meetings through August 2021.
The Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Education would like to invite interested applicants to serve in one of the two open volunteer positions on the Board’s advisory Finance Committee for Trustee Areas 3 and 4. The function of the Finance Committee is to serve in an advisory capacity to the EGUSD Board of Trustees on matters pertaining to District finances. The Committee provides community input that is shared with the Board of Education. It is comprised of community members appointed by each Board member and the Superintendent, and three community members appointed by the entire Board of Education. Finance Committee members serve two-year terms.
