Welcome
Announcements:
NEW February 5th is Teacher Appreciation Night at Arco Arena.
The Sacramento Kings would like to recognize our own Mr. Mark Maroney at the Kings Game against the Phoenix Suns on Friday, February 5, at 7 pm. The tickets cost just $19.50 (instead of the standard $25.50), and are available online -- you can even print them at home!
Here is the link: www.groupshavemorefun.com/DillardElementarySchool#1
This is a great opportunity for our school community to go out and enjoy an NBA game at a reasonable cost! And, if more than 100 tickets are purchased through our school, Bobby Jackson will come out to Dillard!
NEW A Message from Law Enforcement
Winter has arrived. We experienced some remarkable fall weather. The daylight hours are now much shorter. As we begin the year 2010, this is an excellent time to be thinking more about our children’s safety as they go to and from school.
Traffic around our schools, especially around arrival and dismissal times, is always very congested. With cell phones, IPods, conversations with friends, and a myriad of other distractions, it is easy for our children to pay less attention to traffic than they should. Drivers also become distracted and often times pay less attention to foot traffic around schools than they should.
Some youth believe it’s quicker and more convenient not to cross a street at a crosswalk, or to walk in the roadway instead of on the sidewalk. While these can be violations of the law, more importantly it puts our children at greater risk.
Many drivers believe it is also acceptable to make a U-Turn during the time of traffic congestion around our schools. Please be reminded that the law prohibits you from making a U-Turn on any street within 200 feet of approaching traffic coming from either direction (22103 CVC). But most importantly it again places our children at greater risk.
A “Traffic Safety” brochure containing common traffic violations is located the school office and available to all. Please pick one or more up the next time you are there.
Additionally, and as important, with changing weather conditions, children riding bicycles to and from school need to be even more cautious. Many received new bicycles over the winter break along with possibly new helmets. Proper fitting helmets save lives as well as help prevent serious trauma to the head. It is not only the law that children must wear a helmet, but our responsibility as adults to ensure they do. Please take a strong stance with your child if he or she desires to ride their bicycle to and from school or at any time without wearing their helmet.
We are asking you as parents or guardians to remind your children to be aware of traffic, obey the rules of the road, and emphasize safety and common sense. As the drivers of vehicles we are asking you slow down, model patience and take extra precautions around all schools. The well being of our children is the highest priority for us all.

Dillard History
C.W. Dillard is the only Elk Grove school south of the Cosumnes River, and it has its origins in three country schools. The first was the Davis School, formed in 1865, and named for relatives of Jefferson Davis. The Lee School was built in 1872 and the original Dillard School in 1915. The present school was built in 1956 and named for C.W. Dillard who donated the land for the school. Davis school joined with Dillard in 1915, and when the Elk Grove district unified in 1959, the Lee School joined with Dillard.

Dillard's own Daryl Navarrete has advanced to the California Central Valley Spelling Bee Finals. Based on his written exam score, Daryl will participate in a final competition on March 3, 2010 at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. If you see him around, wish him luck!
