Lugg, Jr., Mayor Patrick Hume, Tom Gardner, President of the Elk Grove Education Association and David Butler, Chief Executive Office of Linking Education and Economic Development participated in the announcement at Laguna Creek High School.  Announcement attendees included board members Jeanette Amavisca, Pollyanna Cooper-LeVangie and Priscilla Cox, as well as several legislative representatives and local leaders.

Ford PAS is an academically-rigorous curriculum taught through the lens of a career. It prepares students for college and high-wage, high-skill fields including business, engineering, technology, design, alternative energy and global economics. The curriculum, which is enhanced through professional development for teachers, brings together all parts of the community -- business partners, higher education, high schools, teachers, community organizations, and students – to provide career-relevant learning opportunities for students.  It was developed by Ford Motor Company Fund in partnership with Education Development Center, Inc.

“Investing in education is a top priority for Ford Motor Company Fund. We understand that education programs help strengthen communities by providing students with the tools they will need to compete and succeed in a global economy,” said Cheryl Carrier, program director, 21st Century Education Programs, Ford Motor Company Fund.

Educators from the 27 states currently using Ford PAS will have the opportunity to tap into this resource hub to access training and insights on teaching 21st century skills.  Each year, Elk Grove Unified will coordinate other professional development sessions that will introduce other teachers and administrators to this dynamic education program.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Elk Grove Unified to work with educators across California and the country to help teachers have the tools they need to teach their students crucial skills they will need to succeed in the real world, such as team-building, communications and problem-solving,” said Elk Grove Unified School District Superintendent Steven M. Ladd, Ed.D.

Elk Grove Unified launched this resource hub along with a two-day professional development session led by Director of Alternative Education Christy Moustris and EGUSD Ford PAS trainers Lynette Rodriguez and Rebecca Roush.  Announcement attendees participated in activities taken from the Ford PAS curriculum, including its new alternative energy and sustainability course, which focuses on energy consumption and potential alternative energy sources, from solar to hydrogen to nuclear energy.

“The Ford PAS professional development being offered at Elk Grove Unified allows me to ensure my students are learning key academic and career technical education skills," said William Giovannetti, Manufacturing, Production and Technology Academy coordinator at Laguna Creek High School.
