Curriculum and Professional Learning

Elk Grove Unified utilizes 21st century curriculum and teaching strategies to challenge our students academically. We create, develop and teach multiple strategies to help students develop the skills to be college and career ready and we encourage students to explore opportunities and offer them tools to mature as global citizens.

Elk Grove Unified provides collaboration time for its teachers at least once per week in addition to on-going teacher training. A recent best practice has been the development of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), which are created by grade level or subject area with scheduled meetings throughout the year – including the summer months. Creating PLCs offers more than collaboration, they become professional development opportunities for teachers with ongoing collaboration across the district and often across the region.

To support the closing of the achievement gap, the Curriculum and Professional Learning Department develops curriculum and course standards and benchmarks in addition to providing curriculum support to all schools. The department is also responsible for designing and providing professional learning opportunities to all employees.
