Superintendent's Office

In the Elk Grove Unified School District, the superintendent is the top executive in the school district, similar to a chief executive officer or “CEO”. The superintendent makes daily decisions about how the district implements its educational programs, spending, staff, and facilities according to and aligned with the school board’s vision. The superintendent works collaboratively with the deputy superintendent to hire, supervise, and manage central office staff and site administration. Seen as the apex of the organization, the superintendent is also recognized as a leader who works with all stakeholders within the education and learning community.

Current Superintendent David E. Reilly oversees, under the direction of EGUSD’s Board of Education, more than 6,000 employees serving 63,000 students on average annually in 68 schools covering 320 square miles in Sacramento County. Superintendent Reilly began his term in January 2026.
